Legislative Information
On May 8, 2015, the Illinois Supreme Court unanimously ruled Public Act 98-599 (Pension Reform) unconstitutional in its entirety. Once again, the state legislature will be under pressure to enact reforms that contain the costs of future pension obligations. Key issues of concern to our membership are summarized in the:

2018-19 SUAA-UIUC Legislative Principles, Successes and Fact Sheet

SUAA-UIUC Ad-Hoc Committee on Pensions Report and Discussion
Our chapter is fortunate to have an experienced group of chapter members who are working on pension subjects of importance to our retirees. Committee members Bill Adams, Robert Rich, Steve Rugg and Rick Schoell will discuss proposed changes to our pension system. Rick Winkel , also a member of the group and chapter President, will moderate. The following questions will be discussed:
  • What is the role of our chapter in the legislative process?
  • How important is it for our chapter to be proactive as advocates, or should we wait and see what happens in the legislative process and react?
  • What is the bond-financed buyout of pension benefits that passed in the spring session (in the BIMP bill), and are there concerns about how it might be implemented?
  • What advice is there about reported efforts to change the Illinois Constitution?
Following these reports, members will be encouraged to provide feedback. We hope you can attend; these are critical issues and we need to have broad input from current and future retirees.
